Thanks for posting! Something very similar happened to my mom's close friend, Karen. She parked her car in the parking lot of Kings Plaza (a Brooklyn mall) and went shopping. So after a few hours she returned to her car to leave. When she got to the toll booth and handed $10 to the clerk, he FORCEFULLY told her that the money was counterfeit and to step out of her vehicle. She argued with him at first, but because he was very forceful and threatened to call security she got out. As she did, a man opened a door from the backseat of her car and RAN. The clerk had seen this creep crouching low in her backseat. He probably saved her life! Who knows if this creep was going to mug, rape and/or kill her. Her husband was SO thankful (as was she) and to this day, they’re still very good friends with that clerk. This is going back about 6 years ago.
Everyone (but especially women) need to be cautious before they get into their car. Maybe I’m paranoid after 9/11 and all these bombings (especially because I work in Manhattan and take the train everyday) but I carry pepper spray and a large box cutter in my purse AT ALL TIMES. I also have a LOUD LOUD LOUD whistle. This whistle is not just your average whistle. It’s EXTREMELY loud and you’re supposed to use it while you’re running if you are being attacked. My husband also enrolled the both of us into martial arts classes because he wants me to know some basic moves to defend myself. We use to take Judo but now we are taking Tae Kwon Do lessons. |
