We have a one year old Yorkie girl who has been picky since the day we got her. As a puppy we found ourselves making little ground veal/lamb patties for her since she wouldn't eat regular dog food and would get nauseated and start vomiting when her stomach was empty.
She will now eat her canned food, which is Wellness in the green can. Believe me, she's a fussy eater, and would not eat the same food two days in a row before, but she's been on this canned food for months and loves it. It's made with lamb and fish and some yams and bits of other veggies. It contains no fillers, no grains (she's allergic to beef and grains) and is all real food. She eats it if she's really hungry (when she's not, if we can get one piece down by hand, then she'll go back and eat the entire plate), but she's not chubby by any means. She's average weight and pretty healthy besides an occasional tummy upset.
Oh, and btw, we found that if she isn't going poo regularly, she won't eat. Apparently when her intestines are full, then she won't take any food in until her intestines are emptied. After she's done her business, she'll come in the house and scarf down a whole plate (of little pieces-we have to make them bite size). So if your doggie isn't regular, you might want to keep him that way by feeding some pieces of apple as a treat (no skins) or using honey-nut cheerios as a treat to get things moving. |
