I think I have the clips that you are talking about.....When I put them in her hair...The hair stick up in the middle and then slides right out..... 
Were you talking about these? The pic is not the best...Was in a hurry to get this posted....They are about 1" inch in length....This was the smallest they had....There may have been smaller but if there were, they were sold out????

This is the clip I was talking about. I don't know what they are called, but they look like mini bag clips.
I was in a car accident awhile ago and was in the hospital for a long time. Lady had to be boarded and I had a mobile vet come to the vet's office and groom her. They cut her topknot off and I was devastated, although I couldn't blame them for not wanting to fool with her topknot everyday. These clips were a lifesaver when she came home.
It's awkward to grow a topknot out. No way to get around that. But with a lot of hair gel and these little clips, I survived!
