Neutering should keep him from marking and humping. He will also be a happier and healthier dog. You will eliminate his risk of testicular cancer and other health issues like an enlarged prostate. Intact males also have a higher risk of aggression. A male can also smell a female in heat up to a mile away and may do anything to get to her..they can be escape artists. He may escape out of your house/yard and get hit by a car trying to get to a female. He may also quit eating when a female is around.
Also, the pet population is out of control right now - millions of dogs and cats are euthanized every year, and tons are abused, neglected and end up on the streets. If for some reason your boy got out and bred a female, you'd be contributing to the ever growing pet population. There are not enough homes for all the animals out there...even purebreds are euthanized in the shelters. Spaying and neutering ensures your dog will not contribute to that. |
