I am not a breeder but I have talked to a lot of breeders lately in my search for my Ava baby and I was told that the 3-4 lb range is what the people here in California want. It may not be that way in other parts of the country but if the price for smaller yorkies tells you anything, I would say they are in demand.
The breed standard is 5-7 and getting smaller all the time it seems by what is winning in the show ring.
Tanya is very reputable, she has healthy dogs who are well cared for and she loves them deeply. The little male is very rare, but they can happen in any litter. He is the runt and you can get a small runt in any litter and the breeders on here will tell you that.
Hi Shelby'smom...To answer your question I would say...~ Tanya does not use the word teacup because she knows there is no such classification in the YTCA but for the common lay person who doesn't know, it is perfectly acceptable to use the term to describe any small breed dog who is below the breed standard for that particular breed. It is not always about a "breeder who just wants to make more money". It is what has become the common terminology in the non yorkie fancier world. I abhor it when some newbie comes here and gets blasted when she says she is looking for a "teacup". It doesn't happen as much as it used to or as it did on some of the older boards as I think we have learned how to tone it down and educate rather than alienate newbies who just don't know. |
