A silky coat is the correct coat for a yorkie to have. It should feel like human hair. However, yorkies can have different coat types. In the past, yorkies had a coarser coat than the silky coat they have now. My Lacy has a silky coat but it is coarser than it should be. I've seen some yorkies have such coarse coats that it is wirey and breaks off easily so the hair always stays very short. There are also cotton-coated yorkies. This is a softer, thick coat. Sometimes it can be wavy or even curly.
