Carprofen (Rimadyl) is a very common drug to give after surgery. Ellie's vet wouldn't give it because it is terrible on the liver and we thought she had a problem. Her vet does use it for most of her spays I think though. I am guessing it could make her sleepy. I gave Ellie pain meds til I thought she didn't need them (about three days).

I do not like this drug and Ellie would have to be in some severe pain for me to consider it (my opinion only).
