Oh my gosh; that's terrible! I'm so sorry for you. But don't be too hard on yourself; you did what you thought was a good thing for Cassie. I can only imagine how awful you feel, it makes me feel terrible, so I know this has to really be affecting you. I just don't know what to say except I'm really really sorry.
