My hubby shoots professionally with a canon 20D. Great camera, while MP help...they are not the only thing. You need to look at other aspects of the camera. Also, the stock lense will work for a while, but if you want to get into photography as a hobby or prof. then you want to invest in lenses. A simple point and shoot camera will not give you what you are wanting, and on that token, a nice DSLR will also not give you what you want if you don't learn to use it, and learn a little about photography.
