Default Maddie needs well wishes

Maddie has been having such a time and in and out of the vet for the past month or more...seems like forever. The vet diagnosed it as colitis a week or two ago and she was on medicine and a new Hill's Prescription Food W/D. She started throwing up again and then got the messy stools and the last couple of days has had to go outside every hour or two and sometimes can't even make it to the door. The vet said today that she has Inflammatory Bowel Disease and he thinks it's affecting her stomach and colon since she's been throwing up so violently at times. He said the best way we could find out for sure what's causing it is to send her to the University of MN for a biopsy. He said he could do it here, but with such a small dog, he would have to do surgery to get to it and he said the University probably would have to also. Even with a biopsy, it doesn't always tell the cause of the problems. I am just sick with worry. For the time being now, she is on medication again and this time it will be for a month and then we will wean her slowly off the meds to see if she does okay. He said Maddie may have to be on this medication the rest of her life. She is also on a wormer just in case she has whipworms which would cause her symptoms, but are very hard to find in stool samples. I feel so bad and have been crying so much today, probably partly due to being soooo tired. I was up with Maddie most the night last night...following her around the back yard where she would be pooping up a storm...and the poop is gross...poor little thing is in a lot of pain. I've tried so hard to do everything right for Maddie and protect her from anything harmful, but this is just beyond my capabilities. All I can do is love her and make her as comfortable as possible and hope for the best. I'm hoping and praying that in a month, once she is weaned off the medicine, that she is able to function without it. She first had this problem at 4 1/2 months and now is 10 months, so she had quite a few months of no symptoms. Any prayers said for Maddie will be appreciated! Thanks for listening.
