Default Does crying ever end?

Hey guys,

I'm concerned about my little Pikko. He's been with me for just over a week now (he is officially 11 weeks old today), but I thought the crying only happened during the first couple of nights away from his "old" home. He's cried and whined every day and night, even when I leave the room. Is this normal? And if so, will it stop?

I work from 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (although I do commute by bus, so I leave home an hour earlier to get to work and get home an hour later to get home). My mom works evening shift, so she's home most of the day (if not, she's out for a couple hours doing errands). And my dad, sister, and brother are also around the house sooner than I get home, so he has someone around him most of the day. He has a crate that I put inside of an xpen. He can sleep, eat, and potty there if no one is home. He gets lots of sunshine and has full view of the kitchen as well.

I've learned that if I sit with him long enough and tell him "good boy," he'll realize he must have done something good (this phrase has been associated with lots of praise and occasional treats). So it helps when he's just sitting inside his crate and I say "good boy." At night, if he gets tired enough, he'll fall asleep while I repeat my words in a soft voice and pet him.

But when I leave for work in the mornings, he isn't sleepy, so my "magic" doesn't work. He'll want to play and then I'll get up to go and he'll cry. I try not to make a big fiasco about leaving. I pretend I'm going in another room so that he thinks I'll just be around the corner. He also has lots of toys and enough food.

Does anyone here have a puppy that doesn't cry anymore? How did you get him/her to be more comfortable and stay happy? (Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance for all your advice!!!)
