There are a few people here with liver compromised dogs. What has your girl been diagnosed with? Liver shunt? MVD? What tests have been done? What are her bile acid numbers and other blood work results?
I have no idea what is causing the scabbing but I guess it could be the food. There is a liver cleansing diet created by Dr. Jean Dodds that quite a few people use. Some replace the fish with egg. I highly recommend homecooking. It is so much better than Science Diet.
