Default prices

Until you live in an area like D.C. or NYC you really never have a concept of how expensive things are compared to the rest of the country. When I moved here I said we were going to find a place to rent for 1000... then after looking a roach infested places... I said 1500... well... eventually we settled on a 2500mo place that is the same size as my house back home which I pay only 500mo for. I can't even imagine what a place the size of mine would be in NYC where every square inch is so valuable. If you drive 1hr south of here the vets... orthodontist... everything drops almost in half (and a lot of times the drs. have offices here and there... but charged that much diff. in their 2 offices). The problem I see is if people will pay it... people will charge it! It is a vicious cycle. I had a surgery performed on a male puppy whose mother ate his umbilical too deep this summer. It caused a huge hernia (but he lived... which is unusual in that situation) and I didn't dock his tail because I thought he was going to die. So... dew claws... tail docked...huge hernia operation ... blood work... post op antibiotics and pain meds.... all for $60 at a tiny little vet clinic an hour south of where I am from in Arkansas. That here would have easily been close to 1000 w/ that massive of a hernia!
