Default Free feed or not

I have been free feeding dry kibble since day one with my girls. They were getting soft food a couple times a day for a while but I found it really didn't seem necessary after the settled in and were eating the dry well enough so they haven't had that in some time now. Bella is 6 months now and a little over 3lbs, Coco is 14 weeks and probably close to 3 lbs now. My biggest issue right now is I think Coco might be over eating, she is a bit chubbier then I think she should be, or I guess it could be normal since Bella has been very petite since day one ? I figured I could just free feed during the daytime hours and then when they are up in bed from about 11pm-8am only water in their upstairs pen with them.

I'm wondering if this is ok as far as low blood sugar goes with these little ones. I don't want to cause them any problems by doing this, and really in reality I would like to get them down to a regular feeding schedule 3x a day instead of free fed as soon as it is safe. When do I know it is safe? Neither of them has had a hypo attack before. What age is it safe to no worry about it as much?
