Good luck in finding the right vet to do the surgery! Both my girls came home the same day. I think they do better being home and feel much more secure.
I'm sure it's different for every dog, but my best friend's yorkie had a front dewclaw removed as an adult when he was neutered and healed quickly and didn't seem to be in pain from it. He was his normal crazy self after he woke up completely
