I use Heartguard chews for heartworm preventative. I give a chew once a month.

For flea preventative, I use Advantage. I've tried frontline before but don't like it - it leaves a sticky residue and seems to wear off faster. Advantage has smaller weight increments and doesn't have as much liquid you have to squeeze on them. It dries and doesn't leave a residue and I think it works really well. The only problem I have with it is that I bathe Lacy once a week so it only lasts through 2 baths..I have to replace it after the third bath. So it usually lasts for 3 weeks instead of 4. But I think that's going to be a problem with any flea preventative for me...I bathe her often so it's going to wash away faster.

there is a new flea preventative out called ProMeris. I got a box recently but haven't tried it yet. You might also want to look into it. It uses a new active ingredient so fleas should not be immune and is supposed to last for 45 days instead of 30
