The hills food we sell in hospital is not marked up any more then stores mark up their food. vets do not get a huge benefit out of selling this food. Hills provides a lot of nutritional seminars and conferences for veterinarians and scholarships and education for vet students, but they don't make any money from selling Hills products.
There is information right on their website about their involvement in educating vets and vet students.

There really aren't that many companies that make prescription diets besides Hills and most really aren't any better. Purina, Waltham and Eukanuba are the only others, I believe. Fortunately, there are much better choices for nonprescription diets.
