That's not true. It's a myth that dry food keeps their teeth clean. It would be like us eating cookies and crackers and expecting that to keep our teeth clean. No matter what we feed, it's important to brush our dogs teeth to keep them clean. The ONLY diet that truly keeps the teeth clean is a prey-model raw diet that includes raw meaty bones. Anything else (dry, canned, homecooked, or pre-made raw) require teeth brushing (although the pre-made raw doesn't allow plaque and tarter to build up either as it doesn't contain grains).
And the moisture in the food is very important. Yes, canned food has a lot of water in it, but that is a good thing. All animals need a certain amount of water intake per day. We get a lot of our water requirement from our food. Feeding a dry food means that they aren't getting any water through their diet...they have to drink a lot of water instead. Some dogs do not have a high thirst drive...feeding a wet food keeps them hydrated better.
Also, canned food is less processed and just overall BETTER for them. With dry or canned food, it is important to not overfeed your dog. A dog can get overweight with either..it is up to the owner to regulate the amount their dog eats.
