Abby is 2 yrs. old now and it took us a good year to get her completely potty trained. That is her coming and telling us that she needs to go out side. When she was little I took her outside about every 1 1/2 hrs. and when she pottied or pooped she got a treat when we got into the house. She rarely had accidents as I was always keeping an eye on her. She stays in our laundry room when I am gone and has only had a couple of accidents when she was little. The hardest was the all night thing she had a hard time making it all night, so I was up at least 1 time a night taking her out until she was about 6 mo. She now sleeps in her crate all night and never an accident. The most important thing is to keep them confined to a small area until you are certain that they can handle not being watched all the time. I never used paper or other stuff in the house, because it made me think that they would get use to going in the house when the needed to be going outside. But we live in an area where we don't have snow so that would make a big difference. It rains here a lot in the winter and Abby hates getting her feet wet, but I usually stand out there with her until she goes. Good luck as yorkies are the hardest dog I have ever had to potty train.
