Carter's mom,
My Sophie was only on SD for about 3 days. (No change to her coat, no scratching or licking.) Her problems were NO desire to eat the SD and extreme diarrhea. If someone has a dog already on SD and they are doing great with it, then there might be no need to change. However, if there are any issues at all, then I recommend a change (gradually if possible) since the ingredients in SD are not that good and since there are a lot of healthy choices readily available that are not that expensive.
Seems like there are lots of folks on this site with good knowledge of the best dog foods....I'm just so glad my internet search pulled this site up so I could get so much help. We really could have put her through a lot of stress not realizing it was the food that was causing the diarrhea. My vet was the one who recommended the switch to SD. I'm not too pleased about that. They should know better.
