I have 5 children and another on the way. Their ages are 12, 9, 7, 3 and 1. They are fabulous with my dogs. They know that they can't carry them around because they haven't been allowed to do that. If they are sitting on the couch or something and one gets in their lap, they are allowed to hold it and cuddle. They are very much family pets, but they tend to gravitate towards the main caregiver. That is true of any breed though.

My best advice is to get a puppy that has been around children since birth and has been well socialized.
