my heart goes out to you, reading this brings it all back to me when millie was 8 months old she had the exact same thing happen to her but not as bad, i rushed her to the vet and he treat her for worm infestation, thinking that was the cause of her very swollen and hard tummy, but i knew it wasnt that as she had only just been wormed about 2 weeks before and she jsut didnt seem right so i took her to the vet again and said i wasnt happy and woudl they check her again , luckily it was a differant vet on duty and he got her details up and noticed she had not gained any weight since her checkup aged 6 months so he ran a bile and acid test and yes she did have a liver shunt, millie was operated on aged 9 months last august and thankfully she came through it and is now a normal little dog... im really so very very sorry you lost your little one i will keep you in my prayers hugs janis millie & max
