 New member with LOTS of questions!

I just found this site and have lots of Yorkie questions and this looks like a great place to start! Hope someone can help me out!
A friend recently offered me a precious little female Yorkie pup {5-wks old and weaned} that is full-blooded but without papers which are of no concern since it is free and I don't plan to breed. I have never had a Yorkie and know nothing about their temperment so that is of concern to me. Also am wondering how it would get along with our other dog, a 7-yr old female Springer Spaniel with a wonderful temperment, but very protective of me. I also have a 30-yr old Amazon parrot who is bonded solely to me, but I am good about never letting my pets see or hear me loving or praising them and each have a seperate "mom time" so no one gets jealous.
Our other dog {the Springer} is crated in the kitchen at night so I am wondering if I would need to buy a smaller one for the Yorkie and if this is recommended? Also, how difficult are they to potty train?
I am sure we would have to make several adjustments but really want to give this a try! Any tips or info would be helpful and greatly appreciated! Thanks!
