Do you think how much you feed affects .... how big puppies will be when they're born? I had never thought about it before, but the reason I ask is because my mom is a breeder (it's too early in the morning to call her first!) and she usually sets out self feeders for expecting mothers in the house because the rest of the day she is busy cleaning kennels, talking to people, etc., etc. She feeds her dogs Purina Pro Plan, but when I moved into my apartment with my husband, I switched my female, Glory to Royal Canin and follow the feeding instructions on the back. I give her one handful in the morning and one in the late afternoon. She is due to have puppies the first of January.
So, my question is if a mother dog is expecting puppies, do you think that the amount given to them to eat will affect how much her puppies weigh? My mom has small Yorkies, but I know some of them pop out 7-8 oz. honkers. Maybe its just genes?
But that was just something I was laying in bed thinking about. What do you think?
