My vet said the earlier and the more severe they exhibit symptoms, the poorer the prognosis. If it were me, I think I would demand the breeder have the knees x-rayed at the breeder's expense. Talk to your vet and go from there. This is really hard to breed out of a line. It is very nice that the breeder was up front with you. However, you won't be able to get insurance to cover any related expenses because it will be determined a pre-existing condition.
