SURGERY IS THE ONLY WAY TO FIX LUXATING PATELLAS. You cannot fix this condition with medication, you cannot rest it away, and you certainly cannot tape the knee in place. If this is happening frequently my guess would be the LP is pretty bad, if it is not properly treated it will get worse and your dog will become prematurely and severely arthiritic.

Now, I apologize if that seems scolding, it certainly is not directed at you, but rather your vet. The treatment he has prescribed does not comport with the general standard of care for this condition. I would suggest finding a new vet and seeing an orthopedic specialist. In the mean time I would supplement your pup's diet with glucosamine or at least give treats containing it.

Bruce has had both knees operated on and is as good as new, but one thing is for sure he would have gotten worse without the surgery.
