Bruce travels a lot, but never to be a guest in the home of someone who would not wish to have him there. Then I always ask...However, when invited to small gatherings at my parents home or with close friends, I usually bring him without asking because these are folks who either (a) adore him, (b) have given permission in the past, or (c) know we are attached at the hip and let me know if they wish for him not to attend.
What I do hate is guests that you inform that you have a dog that is the prince of the household and they come over and expect you to make all sorts of special accomodations for them, like locking Bruce in the bathroom for oh 6 hours, NOT HAPPENING it is his house! Yes, I have had a guest that expected that, and was seriously put out I would not remove his bed from the living room or "get his toys out of sight."
