Oh we have a barrier running along the inside of our balcony rails. I put that up right away as our girls love to be out there when the weather's nice.
There's actually a secondary barrier up right now as well. Penny would use the potty pad if I restricted her movements while on a leash, but Riley would just sit on the pad and look at me, preferring to do her business anywhere else on the balcony. So I bought a little rabbit fence from the pet store and set it up on the balcony, with an opening backed up against our door. Now, I just open the door, and the girls step out into a 3x3 little pen that has a potty pad on the bottom. Now they have to use the pad. Ha!
