I think it sounds like you have a great set up. I do something similar with Gracie but she is in an ex-pen. I have never once closed the door to her crate. I clean the eye goop with a clean, warm wet wash rag. I also have my groomer cut the hair on top of the nose so no combing of the eye area is necessary. Have you considered puppy school? It is as much for your puppy as it is for you. They will teach you many helpful things. Have fun with you new baby, and congrats!
