It's a common practice with shelters and rescues. There is a law in Texas I know that shelters and rescues can only adopt out spayed/neutered dogs and cats. So having these pups altered this early ensures they are spayed and neutered before they go to their homes. A lot of vets are spaying and neutering earlier now...I've seen 10 weeks if at least 2lbs. I've also seen 12 weeks, and then several start at 16 weeks. Of course there are still some vets that stick to the old fashioned 6 month rule though. I don't see a problem with early spaying and neutering. I think it's better to make sure they are spayed and neutered before they are adopted.
