You have been given some fantastic advice from our very knowledgeable members. I would like to add my own word of caution about Break-Away collars..... Please "test" the collar before leaving it on your furkid. Some of the collars take a surprising amount of pulling and tugging and twisting to cause the buckles to come loose.

The manufacturer of the buckles I use claims that it takes only 4 lbs. of pressure to cause the buckle to come apart -- although I don't have any scientific way to "measure" the force exerted on the buckle, I wouldn't feel entirely safe leaving on a young pup -- the choking hazard is too great. An adult would probably be able to fight enough to cause the buckle to release.
