Default Leather ear/cold ear question for suggestions.

When I first got Mr. Big he was a tiny puppy. When he grew up he didn't have much if any hair on his ears. I didn't think it was leather ear cause everyone said it was supposed to feel slimy. His ears just felt smooth. You may not like this part: I used to sit and nibble or chew on his ears because they felt cold. After a while I found his hair was growing back so I started to scrub on them whenever I gave him a bath. I would also sit and massage his ears and I still do. Now he has sparse hair on his ears and it is winter again. How/what can I do to keep his ears warm? I thot about making him a cap but then it would crush his ears down and I don't want him thinking that I don't want his ears to stand. I thot about putting petroleum jelly on his ears to protect them from getting cold but I am afraid that it might clog the pores again and cause the hair to fall out.

Any suggestions? Anyone? Thanks in advance for any helpful hints or tips. Sylvia
