I can completely understand why you would be touchy having just lost your poor Coco last Friday after only having had her a few weeks, especially in the way in which it happened. I cannot imagine how devastating that must be for you and my heart goes out to you.
Please don't think that people were making private jokes about you--references made to a situation not even related to you, but I can see where it would have been confusing.
