The AKC has very strict standards requiring that breeders prove that their breeding dogs are purebred by requiring DNA samples. The ACA just takes your word for it and is obviously abused. The ACA is the big "pet store" store registry since so many of the dogs they register are from puppy mills. They even have a page
recommending pet stores!
