Just wanted to share a story with everyone about something that happened in my neighborhood yesterday.

I live in a neighborhood (large 700+ homes) yet everyone always seems to know everyone else. In my cul-de-sac of garden homes, we all frequently meet in a yard or street for general chit chat with one another. Half of us just walk into one another's homes, we have keys to each other's houses and have installed gates in between the fences in our yards just so we don't have to bother with walking aaaaalllll the way around. I've never thought twice about sending my 6yo daughter to the neighbors for a few eggs or to find out what they want to cook out for supper. That is the kind of neighborhood I live in.

Until today when that all was shattered and we realized we'd all let our guard down big time. Yesterday around 6:30, a child was snatched from their front yard by a stranger! The other end of the neighborhood, but still, in MY NEIGHBORHOOD. The kid was playing and the parents walked to the back to get something. In that short time, a man pulled up, grabbed the kid, threw them in the car and started off. A neighbor who was outside a few doors down saw this, heard the kid scream and started out in middle of the street in front of the car. The car slowed enough to keep from hitting the man and when it did, the child was able to open the door and escape to safety with the neighbor. Thank God!

So this is just a reminder and word of caution. I guess we all let our guard down and forgot that there are bad guys out there! It only takes a second for a child (or dog) to get grabbed and made off with.

PLEASE be aware of where your kids and dogs are, reaffirm with your children how to handle this type of situation and don't let this happen to you!
