I think working to bust puppymills is a great thing but don't beat down people who are trying to help! Sheesh.
Anyway, I don't want this to become another one of the threads that the poor admin has to step in and lock. I am not saying anything more on this matter. I only noticed your low membership (and EVEN JOINED TO HELP OUT) and suggested that you should hook up with the other forum to "coalition build." But never mind me . . . |
Actually, once I got over the shock of your post and re-read it again (wondering what the heck I said that made this person write such a nasty retort?)- I now think
you've completely missed my point. Yes I DO KNOW that the new forum you have created is owned by YT. Fasteddie announced not too long ago his "suprise announcment".
When I first responded to your reply, I thought you were saying that the forum
I suggested you contact was ALSO owned by YT. What
I was asking was DID YOU SEARCH OUT THE INTERNET TO SEE IF THERE WERE ALREADY ACTIVE FORUMS REGARDING PUPPYMILLS THAT MEMBERS COULD JOIN AND MAKE A DIFFERNECE? If people want a forum to do something about puppymills,
perhaps directing them to existing forums or connecting yours into the network of existing forums, would make you more effective? You know there IS a reason opponents try to
"divide and conquer" - going to politicians without a consenus and factions of people - none who represent a majority, isn't going to get you far.
My intial question, and now that I re-read your post - still stands, is to say that if you really want to make a difference, why not work with an established coalition of 2000 or 3000 people who have already been actively "millbusting" - rather than reinvent the wheel, starting off with nothing. No I am not trying to "repress" your forum - I went as far
as posting about your forum in MY OWN forum as soon as you announced! But I think your efforts would be better served to reach out to those who have been doing this for awhile and could direct you and lend you the hand you obviously need EVEN IF THAT MEANS RELINQUISHING A LEADERSHIP ROLE.
Your heart is in the right place but you aren't using your political tools to their fullest advantage. YOu can take my advice or not, that's your choice. But please understand that my now deceased godmother spent most of her LIFE fighting puppymills. You are not doing something that no one else has tried before. Why not seek out the assistance of people who have been at this for so many years? If you are having trouble getting people to join your forum, perhaps, it is also because there are other forums and organizations that are already more active and have a structure and active membership in place?
Instead of reading my post carefuly and noticing that I extended a hand to help you . . .you slapped out at me. This was a very nice place for people to learn about Yorkies until this attitude crept in. I am so sorry to see it and I am sadly concerned that if people are constantly responding to constructive critisim in this manner, it will detract and possibly be the end of this forum. We all know that other forums have come and gone before. Let's not let that happen to YT? OK?
In my "day" job I sit at meetings with politicians on the one side and activists on the other. Many of these activists get angry and disgruntled when their ideas are shut down. Suddenly they start complaining that the system is corrupt and nobody wants to hear the voice of the "people." Well, truth be told,
it isn't always the message that is being shut down - it's the delivery![I]
