I am the wife of a dentist and I manage his two offices and we have the laser bleaching and the take home trays and there are things to do to make the teeth less sensitive and some procedures induce less sensitivity than others.

The Zoom laser bleaching is the best we have found so far because it bleaches the teeth in less time (about 45 minutes) and it causes the least amount of sensitivity. If you brush with a desenstizing tooth paste for about two weeks BEFORE you bleach this should help as well as taking advil before the procedure. There are also "tricks" the dental assistant can do to decrease the sensitivity.

I have very sensitive teeth and it was very painful when I used the Rembrandt laser whitiening, but I did the Zoom and had only minor discomfort.
