I spoke with a local reputable breeder yesterday and I explained to her that I was looking for a female yorkie. I also told her that I wanted to get a female that would be a match for my male 6lb yorkie, if we decide to breed in a few years. She asked me some questions regarding my intentions for breeding..(good sign) and told me that the female she had now doesn't sound like a good match b/c she was too small. She mentioned she had a female that was in heat and she expected her to be pregnant in a couple weeks (1-2wks). She already had a deposit on one female from her litter but was willing to accept a deposit from me as well. I am going to her house on Thursday to take a look at the dam/sire. My question is: is it common to take deposits on a pup that isnt conceived yet? How does a breeder know if their will be 2 females in a litter? What are the chances of her not conceiving? and how long is their gestation (gestation- is that what it is called for dogs)? [/COLOR]
