I'm very disappointed in this. The judge said that he wanted to send a message. A message would have been the full 11 months, 29 days. Not just 30 days

Dog kicker gets 30 days in jail
A man involved in a bizarre dog-kicking case was sentenced this morning to serve 30 days in Jail.
Chad Crawford’s lawyer had asked the court to keep his client out of jail and placed on probation because he had never been arrested before the 2004 dog case and suffered enough.
Crawford punted a miniature Yorkshire terrier named Gizmo like a football at an Antioch-area apartment complex as the animal's owner watched in horror.
But Criminal Court Judge Monte Watkins said it was important to send a message about animal cruelty and ordered Crawford to serve 30 days in jail day for day.
A Nashville jury convicted Crawford, 27, of aggravated cruelty to an animal in October, a misdemeanor. The law has since changed to make it a felony.
Under the law, the judge could only sentence Crawford up to 11 months and 29 days in jail and had to take such things in consideration as his lack of prior criminal record and his employment.
Watkins ordered Crawford to serve the remainder of the 11 months and 29 days on probation.
