This is my 4th year with our district. I was hired on as a paraprofessional. My current position is a parent liaison...basically not a popular position with some parents.
I have summers off, Christmas break and spring break with my kids. I get paid year around so that part is nice.
The pay isn't much working for the school district...but then, everyone complains about their pay. We only get paid once a month and with our last pay raise, I think I got around $20-25 dollars extra a month.
We're allowed 7 days off during the school year with pay and 3 days are docked at half rate.
The atmosphere basically depends on your boss. A group is only as great as it's leader. If your boss is into gossip, you can rest assured that there will be lots of back-stabbing going on. If your boss doesn't put up with it, then that would be an ideal working environment.
I've always loved my job until this year. I seriously think that my boss is going through menopause and has been quite difficult to work with. Because of this, I don't think I'll be going back next year but I haven't made up my mind yet...after all, they could move principals around.
Anyway, as always, JMO.
Oh, forgot to add that I started out at the high school level but work at an elementary school now.
