Nope, not at all.... it comes with it's own fleece cover in different styles... Natalie is only 25 ounces and I worried that it might be too hot for her so when I first got it I just tucked it under the bed pad inside her little princess "house bed" and it kept her cozy.... after a while she just started scratching the bed pad up to get to it and now I pop it right out of the micro and she jumps right on top of it! If she gets too warm, she gets off of it and snuggles up curled around it's edge.
