It looks like his hiding and snapping is his way of playing rough. He's probably trying to get your attention or is lashing out for having a lack thereof. Yorkies tend to like lots attention. In this case, whatever family dropped him off by your house has probably neglected him and his way of coping was to get your attention till he gets what he wants? I'm not sure. But I hope you find a solution...!
