Cats only need a whole big enough for their heads to fit through & they can fit there whole body. So you could cut a small enough hole that the yorkie can't get through.
Our cat has it's own room & we have it baby gated off from the rest of the house. The cat can jump the gate & Logan won't because he's scared of baby gates (one fell near him when he was little), so it works for us.
