Secret Over weight

Hello, I am new to this site and have owned a yorkie for 4 years. I got Snicker Doodle at a local pet store when he was 3 months old and weighed 2.3 pounds. I asked how much he would weigh full grown and they said Snickers was small and would be no more than 6 or 7 pounds.

Snickers is now 4 years old and I took him for his annual check up and he was up to 12 pounds. The vet told me that I need to limit his food to 2.5 cups a day and not free feed him. The only problem is that I have a miniature poodle and they both are used to eating whenever they want, so it's hard to put them on a daily routine.

I have noticed that when Snickers gets stressed out he will pace and eat his dry food pebbles... I should say he swallows his food whole.

Does anyone have any idea on how I can monitor my dog's food and make sure both my yorkie and poodle are eating enough and not too much?
