I bathed our Tara the first day she came to our house, she was 7 weeks old. I would wait a week for her to settle. Our Tara obviously didn't like it and was frightened, but survived. Bath is not her favourite thing but the more she is bathed she is getting used to it. She whines and shakes with cold, but have a warm towel ready and a hairdryer, as she will cry from being cold. The hairdryer is not her friend either so I have to hold her with one hand and dry with the other, just keep talking to her calmly. I would say go to groomer when needed, if fact they should experience it first time before 14 weeks old as a part of their socialization, you should expose them as a young puppy to all possible different people and situations, washing machines and vacuum cleaners, car and public transport etc. They need a lot of positive experiences when very young, so you go ahead and groom him/her or take him to the shop with you to meet some people. The dog should meet 50 people before he is 4 months old. |
