However as i was reading about the tail needing to be docked if you wanted to show i was wondering if you knew the tail would need to be shaved and all that hair would take a long time to grow back out. Having the vet shave as little as possible would be ideal for you HOWEVER it is not sterile and a good vet will want sterility over beauty. The body is being cut open, even tho it is a tail there are many blood vessels in the tail of an adult dog. She can get an infection or worse. |
As long as the area was sterilzed I dont see how it would be any less sterile than if it were shaved. The vet would just have to make sure the area was clean and flushed out before he sutured the tip, I could be wrong, even though im a Vet Tech student, I am no vet! Say he does have to shave, I have no problem waiting for the hair to grow, how long does the hair on the tail have to be in order to look normal for showing?
