I have never seen a straight ring used to pierce the belly...Mine is curved...

As for takng the ring out...If you want to take it out for good it closes up in 48 hours...no "scars"...But if you want to kepp the hole and just dont feel like having it show at that time, they have these clear rings that keep the hole open...My holes are not very big..I think 14 gauge...
