That's the exact reason I had to rehome my maltese one time, I couldn't leave the room without her barking(in a high pitched bark at that), and hubby works also a lot out of the home, and is on this business phone quite a bit..nothing worked with the maltese, I know there are some good websites to give you different ideas on how to get them to stop barking..
Good luck, it's hard to have to rehome them for something like that, but, I've been in your shoes on that one
