Animals have an amazing sense of smell...heard dogs sense of smell is 3,000 times more sensitive than a human's sense.
They can sense the odors in water and may need time to adjust to the water in your area. Maybe leave it out to get rid of some of the odors.
We had a horse who would not drink water at horse shows unless it was brought from home. We brought along lots of 5 gallon buckets in the hot weather!
