Omg So almost a tradegy! Groomer story - please be warned.

I took my Emily to a groomer today, I groom her myself because there isn't a decent groomer that I'm happy with but she puts up such a fight when I try to trim her nails I chickened out and decided to take her to the new groomers that's just opened nearby. They are a vet surgery and cat and dog boarders as well as a grooming salon.

Anyway, I went into the front reception and the lady asked if I wanted Emily's nails done there with me holding her or if I'd prefer she did them in the grooming room as I'd already explained that I had problems doing them and Emily can be snappy. I preferred someone else to hold her as I figured she might be less naughty without me there so the lady carried Emily off out the main door (I presumed) into a seperate room whilst I sat down to wait.

It seemed to be taking a long while so I stood up and happened to glance out of the front window onto the (busy) road outside and noticed Emily running across the dual carriage way!! OMG, everything went in slow motion but I managed to run after her screaming her name and luckily she froze after crossing the road twice and realised it was me and ran to me and crouched in front of me so I could pick her up. My heart was in my mouth!

It turns out that the grooming lady gave Emily to a man to take back to me rather than carry her back to me and, as I hadn't planned on her being walked anywhere) I had just put her collar and leash on instead of her harness so she had slipped out of it. I had no idea she would be leaving the grooming shop and I so wish I had put on her harness now. The lady turned out to be the owner (also the vet) and the man is her partner so you'd think they'd be a little more responisble.

I won't be taking any of my dogs to any more groomers ever again, I will have to just muzzle Emily next time I need to cut her nails. I just wanted to warn people to always put their dog's harness on even if you're only planning on going to the groomer and warn the groomer to keep your dog on their harness and leash if they plan to let them outside! I'm just so glad I happened to look outside at the right moment and I thank God as I think he must have been watching over us today!! We've all been for a nice walk now to recover.
